Claim or Request Torah Reading Assignments in iLeyn
iLeyn gives members two ways to take on a reading, prayer, honor, or service role: claiming an open item directly, or requesting it for an administrator to approve. Administrators choose per member whether that member can claim assignments outright or must request them, so open sign-ups and controlled approval can coexist in one community.
A member with claim access can take an unassigned reading or honor and have it assigned to them immediately, with no extra step. If their plans change, they can unclaim it so it becomes available again.
Members who must request assignments submit a request instead of assigning themselves. The item then shows as requested, and it is not finalized until an administrator approves it. A member can cancel their own request before it is approved.
Administrators can assign any member directly, and they can approve pending requests to confirm the assignment. iLeyn also flags when someone has already requested an item, so two people do not unknowingly compete for the same reading.
Honors and roles can require a designation, so members only see the claim or request option on items they are eligible to take. This keeps specialized assignments limited to qualified members while everyday readings stay open.
The two modes are a trust dial, not a limitation. Open claiming suits established readers and self-service sign-up sheets; requesting suits newer members, high-demand honors, or communities that want a coordinator to confirm every part. Administrators can always assign directly regardless of a member's setting, so a coordinator can fill gaps by hand while everyone else signs up. Mixing the modes per member lets one community run open and supervised sign-ups side by side.
Claiming assigns an open item to the member immediately. Requesting submits it for an administrator to approve before it is finalized.
